General Characteristics:
The Giant Keyhole Limpet has a cap-like shell and can grow up to 7cm long. The shell is often gray or brown in coloration with course radiating ribs. At the apex of the shell, there is a round anal opening for excreting waste. The mantle only covers a small margin of the shell, nearly exposing the entire shell. The Giant Keyhole Limpet is omnivorous; the preferred food being bryozoans.
Habitat:
The Giant Keyhole Limpet can be found around Afognak Island, Alaska to Camalu, and Baja California. They typically inhabit rocky areas along the coast in the low intertidal to subtidal zones.
Importance to Humans:
Other than being part of a balanced ecosystem, the Giant Keyhole Limpet has little connection to humans.
