General Characteristics:
The Condy Anemone is a species with a single, large polyp surrrounded by long tentacles that are tiped by stinging cells. The body and tentacles are white in color with green, purple or magenta tiped tentacles. The oral surface contains the mouth, which is shaped like a slit and situated at the center of the body. This opening also functions as the anus for the Condy Anemone. The anemone eats other small invertebrates that it can catch with its stinging tentacles. They are sedentary by nature and burry their aboral surface into the sand for added protection. In addition, the Condy Anemone has several sybiotic relationships with shrimps and diamond blennies. The fish get food and shelter in exchange for the cleaning they do to the Condy Anemone.
Habitat:
The Condy Anemone is natually found in the Western Atlantic Sea, the Caribean Sea, off the coast of Florida among coral reef environements.
Importance to Humans:
The Condy Anemone is used in the marine aquarium trade.
